OTHER OPERATIONS PROVIDED BY TUGBOATS COMPANIES RELEVANT TO NAVIGATIONAL SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

RESCUE – Tug boats are at the disposal of the maritime authorities that utilise them to save lives at sea and along the Italian coastline.

SALVAGE/WRECK RECOVERY – Among other operations, tugboat companies also carry out maritime rescue operations, assisting ships in distress that request intervention and removal of wrecks.

ESCORT SERVICE – In this operation the tugboat follows the ship being assisted, hooking up against its stern, always ready to take action in case of engine or rudder failure. This service, which is necessary in particularly sensitive enviromental areas, is presently underutilised in our country.

FIRE-FIGHTING – Tugboats can spray water jets onto burning objects over long distances (more than 100 m).

ANTIPOLLUTION – This involves direct preventive actions or collection operations involving ships in distress for the purpose of preventing or limiting marine pollution. Tugboats utilise the most modern systems to contain (constraining pollution through the use of oil booms) or to collect oil spill (using oil recovery equipment).
